Vision, Professionalism, Empowerment: About the Encaustic Conference

This is The Encaustic Conference . . . the first and only annual encaustic event to draw from an international roster of exhibiting artists who are fully engaged with the medium of pigmented wax.

To better reflect our international scope we added "international" to our title in 2010. We realize the insertion of this word may create some initial confusion for new artists who are navigating the alphabet soup of encaustic groups and organizations. The International Encaustic Conference is never reduced to three letters, though we may and do refer to it as "The Encaustic Conference" or even "The Conference."

Not a retreat, not a camp, not a regional gathering, The International Encaustic Conference, founded and directed by Joanne Mattera--now in conjunction with Truro Center for the Arts--is a conference for professionals by professionals. We offer technical information about the medium while underscoring the concept of encaustic as a means of expressing an artist's unique vision. It is in every way an opportunity for professional advancement. The International Encaustic Conference offers an opportunity to learn, exhibit, network, make lasting friendships, and interact with dealers and curators in a relaxed way. You may arrive as an "encaustic artist" but you will leave an artist. (Plus, it's a really good time!)

Independently owned and organized, The International Encaustic Conference has never been affiliated with any other encaustic group or organization, though we welcome the participation of members so aligned. Membership is not a prerequisite for registration. Everyone who works in encaustic is welcome to register.
